NYAIR Episode 49 –The State of Play in U.S. Politics

A fireside chat with former New York Governor George Pataki on the current political landscape in the run up to the presidential election. Topics discussed range from the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the election outcome, to the Paris Agreement and the general economy, among others.

Gov. George E. Pataki is Senior Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, where he focuses on  environmental, energy and infrastructure law. He also is founder and Chairman of the Pataki-Cahill Group, a consulting firm that mainly advises on climate change, energy and the environment. He served as governor of New York for three terms from 1995-2006, winning election in 1994 and re-election in 1998 and 2002. His service as governor was defined by his strong stewardship in the aftermath of the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Working with President George W. Bush, New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and other officials, Gov. Pataki provided steady, reassuring leadership and helped guide the city and state as it recovered from the tragic loss of lives, physical devastation and psychic wounds. He also played an instrumental role in the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site, having appointed half of the Port Authority commissioners and a majority of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. members who helped determine the site’s future. A symbolic cornerstone with Gov. Pataki’s name was laid at the 104-story One World Trade Center, also known as Freedom Tower, on July 4, 2004.

He is a graduate of Yale University, where he served as Chairman of the Conservative Party of the Yale Political Union. And he holds J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he served as Editor of the Columbia Law Review.
